Do I need to buy a computerized sewing machine?

Stitch Options:

What are the different type of sewing machine stitches? Which stitches do I need to have? Lets have a quick review of the stitch selections available.

  • Basic starter machines may only offer 10 to 20 selections. They will be missing keyhole buttonholes, eyelets, proper quilt making and decorative stitches, and may not have proper stretch or edging stitches available.

  • Intermediate models in the price range between £200- £300 will offer more stitches, and will be more adjustable when dialing in length and width settings, needle position adjustment options are important to consider while inserting a zip, to make life easier.

  • Computerised models can have hundreds, with lettering in various font styles, with a memory to save personal settings. They offer vintage hand-look quilting stitches. Each stitch is preprogrammed, length, width and balance is preset and is ready to use at the press of a key. Some have a stitch creator, you create your very own personal custom stitches.

  • Ensure your selection includes essential stitches like stretch, overedge, and the buttonhole styles needed.

  • Will you ever need quilt making specific stitches, for patchwork, hand-look antique quilting stitch, or edge to edge joining stitches.

  • Can it sew a over-edge stitch and stop the edge fraying, It's not going to be comparable to the stitching of overlockers, but something very close to get by, like the closed ever-edge stretch stitch is a good choice.
